Julián Álvarez seals move to Atlético Madrid from Man City



Julian Alvarez has sealed a move to Atletico Madrid after two years with Manchester CitySpanish club announced on Monday.

A source told ESPN that the City will receive £82 million ($104 million) for Argentina international.

It is a record sale for City and a huge return on investment for a player they paid £14m for in January 2022.

Álvarez was immediately loaned back to River Plate before making the move to the Etihad Stadium permanent ahead of the 2022-23 season. While Álvarez could not confirm Erling HaalandWith a place in the starting line-up, his versatility and effectiveness off the bench saw him score 17 goals and provide five assists in City’s treble-winning campaign.

Haaland’s injury last season saw Álvarez’s playing time increase — in 54 appearances in all competitions, he scored 19 goals. But, he was never able to establish himself as a first-choice striker before Norway international, who has now won back-to-back Golden Boots Premier League season.

During his time at City, Álvarez shone in Argentina’s victory at the 2022 World Cup and also lifted the Copa América earlier this summer.
