“Pain about not being able to defend his title”: Neeraj Chopra on missing out on commonwealth games
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra has said he is heartbroken about not being able to defend his title at the upcoming Commonwealth Games. Earlier, it was confirmed that Neeraj will be absent from the upcoming event due to injury. Neeraj issued a lengthy statement, saying he was also disappointed to have missed the opportunity to be India’s flag bearer at the event’s opening ceremony. It’s important to note that Neeraj won a gold medal at CWG 2018 on the Gold Coast.
“Hello everyone, I am deeply disappointed to have to inform you all that I will not be able to represent my country at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. I was left feeling uneasy. after the pull I felt in my groin during my fourth throw at the World Championships.During medical investigation yesterday by a team of doctors in the US, a small tension was detected and I was given medical treatment. advises rehabilitation and rest for the next few weeks,” Neeraj said in a statement on Twitter.
“I discussed this with my support team and IOA, AFI and SAI’s CAIMS, and together we decided that keeping my long-term goals in mind, it would be best for me to skip the CWG to avoid risk any further severity of injury Needless to say, it hurts me not to be able to defend my title and to miss another chance to represent my country. for losing the opportunity to be the flag bearer of Team India at the Opening Ceremony, an honor that I look forward to in the next few days,” he added.

Adding in his statement, Neeraj said: “For now, I will focus on my rehabilitation and hope to be back in action soon. I want to thank the whole country for all the love. and the support I’ve received over the years, and urge you all to join me in cheering on my fellow Team India athletes in Birmingham in the coming weeks.”
Neeraj, who won a silver medal with Sunday’s 88.13-meter throw in Oregon, picked up an injury during his performance at the World Championships and that’s why he won’t can defend his gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
“India’s javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra called me earlier today from the US to inform him that he would not be able to participate in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games due to fitness concerns. After attending the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Mr Chopra had the MRI scan done on Monday and based on that, he was advised by the medical team to rest for a month”, said Rajeev Mehta, IOA Secretary General said in a statement.

Neeraj is also the reigning Olympic champion, having won a gold medal at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.
Chopra has been cherishing extraordinary results this season. The star athlete has improved his personal record twice – he scored an 89.30m throw on June 14 at the Paavo Nurmi Olympics in Finland before delivering his spear to 89.94m last month.
