Lucid Group CEO Peter Rawlinson is confident that the automaker has established a significant advantage in electric vehicle performance.
The 2025 Lucid Air Pure gets 146 MPGe in EPA testing and 5.0 miles per kwh based on its 420-mile range alone, making it the most efficient car on the US market regardless of powertrain type, Lucid said. In a LinkedIn PostsRawlinson added that it would take rivals years to reach this milestone at their current rate of progress.

Rawlinson’s post includes a chart comparing the historical MPGe improvements of the Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan, and Mercedes-Benz EQS sedans versus the Air, using data from the EPA. fueleconomy.gov website. According to Lucid, at its current rate of progress, Tesla could reach the Pure Air’s 146 MPGe rating by 2032, while Porsche and Mercedes are even further behind.

2025 Lucid Air Pure
A more efficient EV can travel further on a given amount of electricity, allowing for a reduced battery pack size, which brings a host of benefits including lower cost, reduced weight and less need for raw materials. That’s why effectiveness, not scopeis Lucid’s engineering push. The Air Pure relies on a sizable 84.0-kwh pack to achieve its EPA range rating, and its $71,400 base price isn’t exactly affordable.
Lucid hopes to apply some of its efficiency-focused techniques to a less expensive model called the “Medium-sized project” is expected to launch in 2026, following the launch of the Lucid Gravity SUV later this year. Both projects will likely be partly funded by a $1.5 billion cash injection from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), which is currently Lucid’s largest shareholder.
