Dodge Charger EV’s ‘exhaust’ noise leaked, fans not happy

avoid decided to ditch the Hemi V8 and go electric in Charger has received mixed reviews, and V8 fans seem less than welcoming of efforts to build electric vehicles (EVs) that appear to use internal combustion engines.

When the cover is removed from the power Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept In August 2022, the company said the production model won’t lose the roar of the old 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8.

It was intended to keep the noise down by installing a “Fratzonic Exhaust”, pushing the sound out through an amplifier and tuning chamber at up to 126dB.

As the production version nears, Dodge took to social media to show fans what to expect from the exhaust by uploading a short clip of the Charger running through a tunnel.

The noise increases as it gets closer to the camera, although without changing gears it doesn’t seem to be accelerating hard, and a slight electrical whine at the back reveals its true power source.

As expected from such a passionate fan base, commenters took the opportunity to mock the fake sounds, call for the return of the V8 engine, and generally mock its ambitions to be an electric muscle car.

It’s not all bad news for Charger fans who want to stick with petrol engines, as the model – which will be offered as a coupe and sedan – will be offered in the US next year with a turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-six ‘Hurricane’ engine.
