Top Predictions for the 2024 Wyndham Championship Golf Tournament
One surprise: Spieth, a three-time major champion, did not crack the top 10 this week. He saw his world ranking drop to 37th, and he is 63rd in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the final tournament of the regular season. Spieth will likely need sponsorship invitations to play in certain tournaments next year if he does not crack the top 50 and qualify for the second round of the playoffs.
There was no sign of a good week from Spieth, who hasn’t finished better than T25 since T10 at the Valero Texas Open in early April. He has only three top-10s in 20 events this season, missing the cut six times. Spieth ranks outside the top 90 on the PGA Tour in scoring average, scrambling and strokes gained from approaching the green.
The model also took into account where Im finished. Im is the highest-ranked player in the field this week, ninth in the FedEx Cup standings heading into the final week of the regular season. The South Korean native has three top-10 finishes in his previous five appearances at the Wyndham Championship, including a tie for second in 2022.
However, the two-time PGA Tour winner has not won a tournament in nearly three years, with his best finishes this season being a tie for third at the Travelers Championship and a tie for fourth at the Wells Fargo Championship. He finished T7 at the Open Championship in his most recent start, giving him eight top-12 finishes in his last 10 starts. Im will be aiming for his third PGA Tour victory this week, but he will have to overcome a number of other capable golfers in the field.
