The golf action was in full swing over 36 holes at Paris Olympics 2024and it will stay that way for the next 36 days. If you live in the United States, you’ll have to wake up pretty early in the morning to feel the heat. The festivities continue on Saturday at 3 a.m. ET when the third round begins at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France.

Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who led solo through 18 holes, was tied with Xander Schauffele of the United States and Tommy Fleetwood of England for the lead after two rounds at 11 under par. They were all two shots ahead of Spain’s Jon Rahm. Barring a surprise, the gold medalist will come from that group — and perhaps all three podium finishers, too.

If you’re wondering what this event means to Frenchmen Victor Perez and Matthew Pavon — both competing in their home countries — Pavon had this to say earlier this week: “After a few days in the Olympic Village, the opening ceremony in Paris with the crowd in front of the Eiffel Tower and all the great moments we’ve had over the past few days, I really feel like the gold medal now ranks higher than a major tournament for me.”
