“Boys, we did it,” was the simple cry that go out to look for a train has lain thousands of feet below the lake since 1947. As they howled and cheered at finally finding “3512,” underwater cameras rolled across the spectacular numbers on locomotive coal truck. In front is a giant snow plow, behind are many lumber trucks. While the wood has long since disappeared, The train is surprisingly intact. for slipping off a train barge more than 70 years ago.
This machines It had to cross Slocan Lake in British Colombia during its journey, and while it was almost right in the middle of the lake, the barge carrying it tilted and it fell off completely. No one knows exactly where it ended up, and it was difficult to track, but decades later, technology has finally caught up with the desire.
The plan, now that the train has been located, is to bring the damn thing back to the surface, pull it out, restore it, and get it running again. It seems like a huge undertaking, but I applaud them for the effort. Can you imagine restoring something that has been underwater for seven decades?
This documentary revolves around the last surviving crew member on that ship, and 99-year-old Bill Chapman certainly contributed greatly to the emotional nature of the presentation.
If you have an hour and a half to sit down and watch this video, I would love to put it on my TV for a movie night tonight. The spirit and determination to do something nearly impossible is exactly what I love about Humanity. The greatest adventures are the most difficult, and we are all fools for attempting any of them.
