Hagerty Announces Winners and Losers in the Collector Car Market
There are a number of reasons why the Roadster’s value may be declining among collectors. One reason is that maintaining an old EV isn’t easy. There are some companies that rebuild and refurbish the battery packs and drivetrains, but Tesla stopped supporting these cars long ago.
Brand new Teslas are hardly luxury cars anymore, and the brand doesn’t have the clout it had a year ago. It’s relying on price cuts to drive sales rather than innovative products and a strong early-market advantage.
But the biggest reason things have changed in recent months is probably Elon Musk, the company’s CEO and sole spokesperson. The guy is a weirdo, and few people want to be associated with his image. There aren’t many people out there who are interested in collecting six-figure, year-old electric sports cars, but those who are interested are unlikely to share Musk’s political views. With him masked as a far-right extremist, I’m sure some owners have put their cars up for sale. If you don’t mind being harassed by Tesla, you can probably get one!
