One Reddit user appears to have gotten closer to an update. Tesla Model Y before being revealed.
Images shared for r/teslamotors showing some interior and exterior details of the highly anticipated ‘Juniper’ update of the world’s best-selling electric vehicle (EV).
For the exterior shot, the photographer appears to have pulled a sheet over the vehicle, revealing a full-width light bar that looks similar to the light bar used on Rivian products.
A single interior photo shows what appears to be perforated leather or faux leather seats, suede-like door trim, and a thin strip of ambient lighting.
Beyond these images, we still don’t know what the Model Y update will bring, although the front end is redesigned – like the Model 3 ‘Highland’ update – seems feasible as Tesla tries to keep its cars fresh amid increasingly fierce competition.
Another image shared to Reddit in early July gives us a closer look at a prototype… but it’s covered in camouflage.
Last yearTesla in China has added RGB interior ambient lighting to the Model Y’s dashboard and replaced the wood inlays with new fabric trim.
We expect additional changes to be made with the Juniper update, including the removal of the indicator lever and replacement with steering wheel buttons like on the updated Model 3.
The sedan version of the Model Y also gets an 8.0-inch display for rear passengers, as well as an improved suspension for a more comfortable ride.

Model Y for the Chinese market
If Elon Musk’s recent comments prove true, We won’t see the Model Y Juniper until 2025after Tesla’s CEO posted on X in May that the upgrade wouldn’t come until 2024.
His explanation comes after reports from China – where the Model Y and Model 3 sold in Australia are made – claimed journalists had been told not to expect an upgrade until 2024.
While this opened the door for upgraded American and German-made models, Mr Musk was quick to quash these ideas.

“Tesla is constantly improving its cars, so even a car that’s six months old is going to be a little bit better,” Musk said, but the company is known for making constant changes to cut costs, such as dropping the Model Y as standard. Brembo brakes for smaller calipers.
Tesla sold 12,516 Model Ys in Australia in the first half of 2024, making it the best-selling electric vehicle on the market. The Model 3 came in second with 10,600 units sold.
