Tesla recalls more than 1.8 million vehicles due to hood not closing properly


Tesla has issued a recall for a hood issue on all of its vehicles. The issue could cause the hood to open while the vehicle is in motion.

On Tuesday, Tesla and NHTSA announced recall 1,849,638 vehiclesincluding Model 3, Model YModel S, and Model X.

The problem stems from the vehicle’s hood latch assembly and associated software. The latch assembly may fail to detect that the hood is not latched after the hood has been opened. This may result in open hood while driving.

Tesla says it has begun investigating customer complaints of unintended hood openings on its vehicles. Model 3 and Model Y in China on March 25.

Tesla said they have released over-the-air (OTA) software update on June 18 for affected vehicles. The update is said to detect an unlatched hood. Firmware release 2024.20.3 and later updates include a fix.

Affected models include the Model X, Model S, Model 3and Model Ys built after July 15 have left the assembly line with software version 2024.20.100, which incorporates a software fix, according to Tesla.

Affected vehicles include all 2021-2024 Model S sedans, 2021-2024 Model X crossovers, 2020-2024 Model Y crossovers and 2021-2024 Model 3 vehicles manufactured between September 21, 2020 and June 2, 2024 in China.

The recall was filed under NHTSA campaign 24V-554.
