LRT3 Shah Alam Line to start operations in Q3 2025 – behind March target, physical work 95% complete

The LRT3 Shah Alam Line will start operations in the third quarter of 2025, in August or September next year. Transport Minister Anthony Loke revealed this at the Pasar Jawa station of the LRT3 Shah Alam Line in Klang this morning, where he toured the facility and gave training to the media and Prasarana management.

Loke said at a press conference after the tour that the physical works for the railway line – which runs from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia – were nearly complete, with the exact figure at 95.6%. By October, all the physical works, including major transit stations, will be completed.

After that, the system and integration work will take several months and is expected to be completed by early 2025. The next phase will be testing and commissioning, which Loke said would take three to four months. “We hope that LRT3 will be fully completed and operational by the third quarter of next year,” the Seremban MP said.

Q3 2025 is slightly later than The original target date for LRT3 is March 2025.. Loke attributed the delay to delays during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite this, Prasarana and the contractors have made every effort to shorten the timeline and reduce delays, he said.

Ignoring the timing issue, Loke announced at the event that the cabinet, in its meeting on July 5, approved a return to the original scope of the LRT3 project, which was announced in Budget 2024 by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister.

This means that the stations that were cancelled in 2018 – Tropicana (formerly Lien Hoe), Temasya, Raja Muda (Sirim), Bukit Raja and Bandar Botanik – have been given the green light. Construction of these five stations will resume after the LRT3 opens in the third quarter of 2025 and will not affect operations, Loke said.
