Designed for workers who spend their days loading and unloading cargo rather than off-road driving and adventure, 4×2 pickups are popular with budget-conscious buyers and fleets.

These are the best performing 4×2 pick-ups in Australia. The following vehicles are selected from the 4×2 segment of the VFACTS sales chart published by the Federal Chamber of Commerce for the Automotive Industry (FCAI).

Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger The XLT 4×2 double cabin 2.0 Bi-Turbo diesel 10AT pickup truck consumes 6.9L/100km, making it the most fuel-efficient vehicle in its segment.

The range kicks off with the Ranger XL 4×2 single cab chassis, priced from $35,880 before on-road costs, and extends to the Ranger XLT 4×2 Bi-Turbo double cab pickup, which starts at $56,440. Both prices are before on-road costs.

Ford backs the Ranger with a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and the pick-up has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Isuzu D-Max

The Isuzu D-Max The 4×2 SX crew cab 1.9L automatic pickup has a claimed fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km, making it the most fuel-efficient version in its class.

Starting with the SX Single cab 1.9L manual chassis, priced at $32,490, the range extends to the LS-U Crew Cab Ute 3.0L automatic, which starts at $54,500 before on-road costs.

The entire D-Max range has a five-star ANCAP safety rating and comes with a six-year, 150,000km warranty.

The most fuel-efficient variant in Mazda BT-50 The range is a 1.9 automatic XS double cab pickup, using a claimed fuel consumption of 7.0L/100km.
