Review of the new Fujifilm GFX 100 II camera

Medium format cameras used to be limited by their huge price tag, untenable for most people, but also unnecessary for most people. Then, over the past decade or so, they’ve become more accessible, thanks in large part to Fujifilm. This is their latest addition to the GFX line.

In 2018, I flew to Tokyo to attend the launch of the Fujifilm GFX 100, and it really changed the trajectory of my photography. I fell in love with the system, the lens, and the images it produced, and I ended up buying it. I originally bought the GFX 50R, and I thought it was a great body for certain types of photography, primarily—at least in my opinion—portraits.

So when Fujifilm GFX 100II Camera was announced, my ears perked up, and it looked like it would deliver on every aspect it set out to do so. It would be a dream camera for many, and one I’d love to upgrade to, but what really surprised me was the price. The GFX 100—the original—cost $10,000, and I couldn’t justify it. Now, six years later, with inflation soaring, I was prepared for the GFX 100II to cost $15,000, but it’s half that: $7,500.

Yes, that’s a lot of money, but for an advanced medium format camera body, it’s actually a very attractive price. What do you think?
