I Can’t Believe These Prime Day Outdoor Deals Aren’t Sold Out

I don’t know about you, but the weather outside is beautiful right now and I’m just trying to stay at my computer until I’m allowed to go running, hiking, or kayaking on a river (I live in Portland, Oregon, which is easily all within walking distance of my house.) (Also, I’m probably doing it right now! You can’t tell where I’m writing this. You don’t have a drone.)

If you also find your mind wandering when you’re supposed to be working and instead daydreaming about that neighborhood party or camping trip you’re going on this weekend, here are some of the best outdoor deals I found while I was supposed to be looking at other things. Don’t forget to check out The absolute best Prime Day deals synthesis and our Prime Day Live Blog for more discounts on our favorite products, tested by WIRED.

We test products all year round and carefully select these offers. We will update this guide periodically throughout the sale event.

“What power “What does that have to do with being outdoors?” you say to yourself, disdainfully. The joke’s on you, because my husband used one of these to blow through four paddle boards on the river the other day without breaking a sweat. It’s the top pick in our guide to The best portable power stationsand in addition to powering the small inflating motors, it also has a good mix of ports so you can quickly charge your devices with 2,042 watt hours of power. It’s bulky and heavy, but it also has a telescopic handle and wheels so you can pull it out of your car and tow it around.

I’ve carried several versions of JBL speakers over the years, including earlier versions of the Go. I especially like to keep one on my bike or backpack to encourage little ones to ride to the park or play (soft) music on riverside walks. This one has IP67 dust and water resistant and have clear and relatively full sound. Unfortunately not all the fun colors are on sale, but the blue and red are, which are my two favorites.

Shokz OpenRun Pro Wireless Headphones

Shokz does some of my favorite things workout headphones. OpenRun Pro (8/10, WIRED recommends) use the company’s latest bone conduction technology, which means they’re significantly more comfortable and less noisy on your skull than some of the company’s previous efforts. They fit under a helmet and don’t block out ambient noise if you’re running. And if you Right has noise cancelling, you can really put it in a pair of earplugs and still hear the music through your skull!

Nalgene gets an honorable mention in our guide to Best water bottleThis seems unfair because I’m an oldie who remembers Nalgenes starting the whole Water Bottle as an Accessory thing. Tritan Renew is a BPA-free material made from at least 50 percent certified recycled content. Nalgenes are lightweight, sustainable, and inexpensive. Get yourself a cool turquoise one, slap a sticker on it, and hook it to the outside of your hiking backpack.

Skratch Labs recently sent me a few flavors of this blend, and it tastes so good that my kids sometimes ask for it. Willingly! We’ve had some heat waves here in Oregon lately. That hasn’t stopped us from getting outside—we love to go boating and swimming when it gets too hot—but I’ve been concerned about how to keep my family hydrated. This is an easy and now more affordable way to do it.

GoPro Hero 12 Action Camera

As we said in our guide Best action cameraThe best advice is often the simplest: Just get a GoPro. The Hero12 is reviewer Scott Gilbertson’s top pick, and the camera he always takes out the door. It has great battery life and stabilization, is much less prone to overheating than previous models, and you also get a free year’s subscription to GoPro Premium. GoPro’s subscription service gives you unlimited cloud storage, replacements for damaged cameras, and discounts on accessories (renewable for $50/year).

We like almost everything Solo Stove makes—my colleague Parker Hall has Yukon Fire Pit and now I have the latest version of Solo Stove Pi (8/10, WIRED recommends). This is a lightweight, portable version of the instantly recognizable steel fire extinguisher. The Solo Stove’s trick is that it has a dual-layer design with an air flow that creates a secondary combustion, burning off any nasty little particles before they have a chance to escape the canister. It does burn fuel pretty quickly, though, so have a good amount of fuel ready before you start burning.

Specialized bicycle

Few non-cyclists would believe me when I say that $6,000 is a pretty reasonable price to pay for a mountain bike this good, even if it Are not has a motor (this one does). I really wanted an electric mountain bike (eMTB) so I could finally keep up with my fitter, faster wife and my friends on the trails around my house. Turbo Levo Comp (8/10, WIRED recommends) uses the same frame as Specialized’s iconic Stumpjumper bike, except with a custom-designed, seamlessly integrated motor that allows people of varying fitness levels to ride together.

This is the best blanket. I use this blanket almost every day. I spread it out in front of our tent so we can keep dust and twigs out of our sleeping area; I take it to the river for picnics. It’s washable and has a waterproof backing so you don’t have to worry about wet grass soaking through, and it’s heavy enough that the corners don’t roll up in the wind. I’ve had mine for almost five years. Buy one get one free.

Our full review of Cleary is coming soon and we’ll include it in Best Kids Bike Guidebut my 9 year old has been testing it for a few weeks and I can’t wait to write about it. I really wanted to get my daughter mountain biking with me but she’s too big for 20 inch bikes and a little small to comfortably fit on many 24 inch bikes. The Cleary’s frame is very low, so shorter people can ride comfortably. The seat moves back as you move up for comfortable reach. You can also customize the ride by adding a kickstand, front fork, and larger tires. It also has an internal gear hub, which means less maintenance for us Pacific Northwesters and our mud issues but also reduces the chance of a dropped chain.

You didn’t really think you’d get through a sales event without mentioning Lifestraw, did you? I’m a little embarrassed about how often I use Lifestraw products. I live in Portland, Oregon, which has the purest, tastiest water in the country, which means that whenever I have to travel, my kids and I can’t stand the water anywhere else and get dehydrated in no time. I use Go water bottle series when we travel and have only recently replaced it with something smaller and easier to pack Lifestraw. But the most affordable are personal water filters. They not only remove bacteria and parasites from water, but also remove microplastics. Each filter can filter up to 1,000 gallons of water before needing to be replaced.
