Top 5 TV Deals

Hisense U8N (8/10, WIRED recommends) is the brightest TV we’ve ever tested. I mean, pull out your sunglasses, open all the windows in broad daylight, thanks to its insanely bright mini-LED panel. That’s all well and good, but what really makes this TV great is that it combines that brightness with great black levels and contrast, almost no blooming around bright objects, and massive quantum dot color. You also get a 120Hz panel and top-notch gaming features for the fastest action, an intuitive Google TV interface, and more. It has a few drawbacks, like off-axis viewing and middling motion handling, but at this price, it’s hard to say no to one of our favorite TVs of the year so far.

TCL Q7 2023 (8/10, WIRED recommends) is one of our favorite affordable TVs, offering a great combination of bright and colorful picture performance and tons of features at an affordable price. Its sparkling screen is equipped with quantum dot for wide color and a 120Hz refresh rate for sports and gaming. Modern gaming features like VRR (variable refresh rate) allow the TV to sync perfectly with high-frame-rate games for smooth, tear-free performance. Unlike some competitors, the Q7 doesn’t offer mini LEDs for advanced contrast control, but hundreds of dimming zones and solid picture processing combine for deep black levels and good contrast. Whether you’re gaming in a sunlit room or watching a dark movie in the dark, this TV will be up to the challenge while keeping your budget in mind.

LG C3 TV (9/10, WIRED recommends) is once again my top contender for the best price/picture performance money can buy. One of the best TVs we reviewed last year, this OLED TV offers a stunning combination of brilliant brightness, vivid clarity, and incredibly realistic colors that add a wow factor to everything you watch. Despite being LG’s entry-level model, the C3 packs a lot of premium features, including four HDMI 2.1 ports with industry-leading gaming tech, LG’s fast (though sometimes clunky) webOS interface, and a stylish yet understated design. The C3 isn’t as bright as LG’s top-of-the-line G-Series, but it offers most of the best features from the top line at a more manageable price. That means you’ll have more money to spend on a great TV. sound baror better yet a sweet couple bookshelf speakersWhat? You think I’m going to recommend a mutual fund or something?

Roku’s budget-friendly Plus Series QLED TVs have a lot going for them, but their best feature is the Roku-based operating system that runs the show. Roku makes everything simple, from setting it up to finding your favorite streaming apps and even summoning the remote from under your dog’s food dish. (How does it do that?) The Plus Series offers good brightness, solid contrast, and expansive quantum dot color, all at a surprisingly low price. The TV’s biggest drawbacks are its 60Hz panel and lack of advanced gaming features, making it a better buy for people who mostly watch TV and movies. If you want to step up the performance, Roku sells Pro Series (also on sale)offers additional gaming features and better overall performance. On the other hand, the Plus Series is ideal for TV newbies who want to enter the world of 4K HDR without spending a dime.

Samsung’s long-awaited return to OLED TVs has been a boon to the industry, with the bold and beautiful S95 QD-OLED series. Turns out, adding the colorful spark of quantum dot technology to the excellent contrast and perfect black levels of OLED is a pretty good idea. The S95C is the second iteration of Samsung’s new venture into OLED, and it’s a flagship worth celebrating. You get great brightness and color, great contrast, wide viewing angles, and class-leading motion handling from the TV’s 120Hz panel. Like all Samsung TVs, it lacks Dolby Vision HDR, and I’m not a fan of its Tizen smart system, but those are the only notable shortcomings. In addition to a great picture, you get nearly comprehensive gaming features in Samsung’s Gaming Hub, a solar-powered remote, and a stylish and versatile design. While S95D is brighterIt’s more expensive now and has a new anti-reflective screen that comes with its own set of features. If you’re looking for one of the best TVs you can buy, the S95C is a great choice at a great price.
