Jace, a compassionate man, was cycling to a basketball game when he saw a tragic scene that he could not ignore. Lying on the side of the road was a small dog, seemingly injured and in critical condition. Although Jace desperately needed time, his heart would not allow him to ignore her plight. He quickly made a call to arrange for her rescue, to make a change that would transform her life. He contacted his mother, who quickly called the rescue team Mission Pawsible. When the team arrived, they approached the puppy. The little dog, huddled in a corner, defensively warned them to keep their distance. Although frightened, the team was determined to help her.
Their first step was to investigate her background. They were horrified to discover that she had an owner despite being abandoned. Mission Pawsible shared on Facebook“She was a beautiful Western terrier puppy but she was not cared for to the standard these animals need so today she is covered in matted hair, ticks, fleas and is afraid of most people. This is why people need to be educated on how to care for pets – both physically and mentally.”
Efforts to coax her into the cage were futile until the owner arrived and chained her up. “The ‘owner’ agreed to let us take her. The sadness and confusion in Lexie’s eyes was heartbreaking. Separating pets from their owners is truly a horrible experience. She may have dreadlocks and been neglected, but she still loved that man,” the rescue team recounted.
Once safely cared for, Lexie was taken to the veterinary clinic, where she received a much-needed haircut and feeding. After a grooming session, her minor wounds were treated, marking the beginning of the healing process. Although she was initially distressed and depressed, the clinic staff remained optimistic about her recovery, believing that she could learn to trust again. She needed a nurturing environment to thrive.
Luck smiled on Lexie when Michellina Suminto came to the clinic. While looking for a companion for her dog Edison, Michellina was immediately drawn to Lexie. Not long after adoption, Lexie’s fur grew back, revealing a fluffy, lovable dog who quickly became Edison’s inseparable companion.
“She is a very brave girl now, I am very proud of her,” Michelina told Dodo Bird.
