Mad Mike’s McLaren P1 Triple-Rotor Is The Craziest Drift Car Ever


Crazy Mike Whiddett have some the coolest cars out there — especially his drifted stable. Earlier this year, Whiddett began the most daring project ever:Fitted the McLaren 650S GT3 with P1 GTR bodywork, fitted with a triple-rotor engine at the rear and driven sideways at Goodwood.

MadMac, as it is called, was completed after just over three months of work resulting in this year’s Goodwood Festival. Mad Mike and his team spent 100 days combining a 650S GT3 chassis and P1 GTR body with a custom widebody kit and Whiddett’s favorite rotary engine.

MADMAC UNLEASHED – DREAM BIG HUSTLE HARDER

The car, as promised, went up the hill at Goodwood. It may not have leaned to one side as much as it did. Ryan Tuerck’s Toyota StoutBut the upward-firing exhaust sounds truly spectacular as it rips down Lord March’s famous private driveway.

That exhaust-mounted engine is certainly an interesting one. Whiddett loves rotary engines, using them in everything from Formula Drift cars to Pikes Peak race cars, and this one makes 944 horsepower—more than enough to get the McLaren drifting around the track.

With the MadMac completed, it’s anyone’s guess what car Whiddett will build next. A pickup truck, like the Stout? A Ferrari, like Fiorella by Federico SceriffoNo one knows what chassis Mad Mike will choose next, but one thing is for sure: It will be a rotary chassis.
