Hyundai will launch a electric three-row crossover SUV later this year, the automaker has confirmed.

The as-yet-unnamed three-row crossover will debut in 2025. It’s listed in a Hyundai press release detailing changes for that model year, with no other details beyond the promise of a “world debut in late 2024.”

This larger crossover has been teased for a while. It was announced alongside the Ioniq EV sub-brand in 2020, and then previewed by Hyundai Seven Concept first appeared at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The terminology of the Seven concept indicates the production model (which used to be test detection earlier this year) will be called Hyundai Ioniq 7This makes sense, considering that the crossover will be positioned above the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in the lineup. But it’s also possible that the new crossover will be named Ioniq 9sync it with Kia EV9 Ability to share specifications with.

If the Hyundai crossover follows the EV9, it will be offered with a 76.1-kwh battery pack and a single-motor rear-wheel drive in base form, a 99.8-kwh battery pack and rear-wheel drive, or dual-motor all-wheel drive. The EV9 is rated for a maximum EPA range of 304 miles with the larger battery pack and single-motor rear-wheel drive.

Meanwhile, Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis is planning its own “supersized GV90,” previewed by Neolun Genesis Concept announced ahead of the 2024 New York Auto Show. Expected to debut in 2026.

The GV90 is said to be built in South Korea, while production of the EV9 for the United States recently began moving to that brand’s West Point, Georgia, plant. Hyundai has its own Georgia EV “Metaplant” that will initially build the Ioniq 5, but Hyundai will also have to make room for the three-row model to make it eligible for tax credits.
