Jaron “Boots” Ennis knocks out David Avanesyan in five blows

IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis puts his title on the line Saturday night in his hometown of Philadelphia against David Avanesyan. Ennis is the favorite to win the main event of the DAZN broadcast, but boxing is a sport where anything seems possible.

Ennis, who appeared to be taller than his opponent, immediately attacked Avanesyan with straight punches. Avanesyan went down after a low blow in the opening round. After continuing the action, Avanesyan was hit by a series of blows from Ennis. The second round was quite tense. Ennis threw strong punches at his opponent from the start, while Avanesyan countered strongly later.

Ennis spent much of the third round hurting his opponent. While Avanesyan wasn’t afraid to throw strikes of his own, it was clear that Ennis was the stronger and more dominant fighter. Much of the fourth round saw Ennis using Avanesyan as a punching bag. Avanesyan is certainly a fighter, though, which made the fight interesting. What is worth wondering, however, is how long it will take for Avanesyan to succumb to Ennis’s attacks.

The answer was less than a round, as a thunderous right hand from Ennis sent Avanesyan crashing to the mat in the fifth round. Avanesyan won, but his face was bruised, bloody, and swollen. No matter, he kept trying. Fortunately, however, the ringside doctor wisely stopped the fight after the bell rang to end the round.
