The Switch is now Nintendo’s oldest home console – but there are still some caveats to consider.
This revelation comes from unparalleled research by our friends at VGCThose who have determined that the Switch has surpassed the Famicom in terms of time on the market before a successor is available.
The Switch launched on March 3, 2017, and it’s been 2,687 days since then — the Famicom was on sale for 2,686 days before its successor, the Super Famicom/SNES, launched.
It’s worth noting that this fact only applies to home consoles; the Game Boy was Nintendo’s flagship handheld console for 4,352 days before giving way to the Game Boy Advance.
You should also note that this is only based on the number of days from launch to the release of new replacement hardware; as we all know, systems continue to be supported even after a successor has been released.
We don’t know exactly when the Switch successor will launch yet, but it’s probably soon.
