Ryan Weighs Options for Book’em Danno


Trainer Derek Ryan is weighing options for his Grade 1 winning New Jersey-bred horse Danno’s Book as he plotted the course for the $500,000 H. Allen Jerkens Memorial (G1) at Saratoga Race Track August 24.

Training at your base Monmouth Parkthe Bucchero The gelding recorded his second workout on July 11, a four-furlong in :47, since beating Grade 1 winners Prince of Monaco And Nutella You on June 8 in the Woody Stephens Stakes (G1) at Saratoga.

“He’s been working well, coming back well. No issues,” Ryan reported. “We have a couple of different options (for his next race), we haven’t decided yet. It depends on the track and the weather, a little bit of everything.”

Those options include the six-furlong $100,000 Jersey Shore Stakes at his home track on July 19 and the 6 1/2-furlong Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga on July 26. Ryan also hasn’t ruled out a grass start.

Unbeaten in five races under a mile, Book’em Danno lost only twice and both times were second place at the mile.

A two-time winner at age 2, Book’em Danno began his season with a win in the Pasco Stakes at Tampa Bay before being nearly caught at the finish line by the UAE Derby (G2) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) third-place finisher Forever Youthful in the Saudi Derby (G3).

Bred by Gregory Kilka and Bright View Farm, Book’em Danno brought home $835,625 for owner Atlantic Six Racing.
