As a devoted pet parent, taking my fur baby to the vet to have it checked out always makes me feel like something is missing. I found myself counting down the hours until I could hold my sweet girl in my arms again. Vet visits can be really scary for our furry friends, especially when their appointments are longer. We humans need to prioritize picking them up as soon as possible.
I think every pet parent feels this way, but then I came across a story about a puppy who ended up staying at the vet longer than usual.
When Dominique Humphries took to TikTok to post a video of an owner who took their puppy to an appointment and never came back to pick them up, the online community was heartbroken.

Humphries said she tried multiple times to contact the owners of the Pit Bull and Labrador Retriever breeds, and each time she reached them, they would tell her they were on their way. When no one came to pick up this adorable little guy, the veterinary assistant from Atlanta, Georgia was confused as to why anyone would do such a thing.
“The owner did not want to pick up the dog because he was afraid of losing it due to health problems, even though the doctor had previously told them that the dog was fine. They just got up and left the dog in the exam room, and we didn’t hear anything until the next day,” Humphries told Newsweek.
She also said that this dog is very friendly and likes to play with humans. That’s why the Atlanta veterinarian office makes sure to give him as much playtime as possible, even spending time eating lunch with him. The video Humphries posted attracted a lot of attention and quickly went viral, with countless people expressing interest in this adorable two-month-old puppy.
Three days later, the owner finally came to pick up their puppy. Unfortunately, because she was taking care of another puppy, Humphries couldn’t confront them.
“They came to pick up the dog on the third day since it arrived at my clinic, which definitely made me sad because I felt the patient deserved a better home. I haven’t heard anything from the owner since then, I’m very scared but also don’t want to know if anything happened to the dog.” Humphries said.

Although many commentators argued that the puppy should not have been kept with such a negligent owner, Humphries was actually bound by veterinary protocol, which required her to care for the puppy until Its owner took it home.
“I wish I could do more for him, but I have to follow hospital regulations. I hope he does well, but if I have an update later, I will let everyone know.” she concluded.
The biggest takeaway from this story is that veterinary clinics are not doggy daycares! It’s important to remember that our dedicated veterinarians have the difficult and sometimes stressful job of keeping our fur babies happy and healthy, and it’s our job to Make it as easy as possible for them.
So please, when your next vet appointment comes up, make sure you not only bathe and feed your puppy, but also arrive on time for pick-up and drop-off!
