Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV luggage check: How much space behind the third row?

The Mercedes-Benz EQS . SUV It’s a three-row car in that it actually has three rows of seats, but if you combine it with other large, luxury three-row cars, that would be generous. Quite simply, that third row of seats and the amount of rear cargo space are barely usable. Mercedes‘ The GLS-Class is more functional on its own, which means the EQS SUV is hardly the all-electric answer to Benz’s biggest SUV yet.

As for cargo area specs, I have absolutely no idea what the EQS SUV is supposed to offer. The official specs only show the 5-passenger version and even then list 22.7 cubic feet “behind the rear seats.” There’s LOTS of space behind Row 2 compared to what 22.7 cubes typically represent, and VERY little space behind Row 3. However, this isn’t the first time Mercedes has used a measuring method. other measure. Either way, it just validates this entire baggage check exercise.

Since I usually only test the areas behind the third row of three-row cars, let’s start there. My guess is we’re looking at 11 cubic feet here or less, but whatever the number, it’s really small. Obviously it will race with Kia sorento And Mitsubishi Outlander for the smallest third-row car I’ve tested.

As in every baggage test I do, I use two medium-sized suitcases for airport check-in (26 inches long, 16 wide, 11 deep), two suitcases that fit on top (24L x 15W x 10D) and a small roll board. fit more easily (23L x 15W x 10D). I also included my wife’s favorite overnight bag just to spice things up a bit (21L x 12W x 12D).

We have a new leader! Or losers! Or whatever!

This is the least amount of luggage I can fit behind the third row so far. These are the three smallest bags, and as you can see, the luxury bag has to be completely smashed for this to work. So yes, you’re better off buying a convertible top and rack if you’re going anywhere for an extended period of time with a full load of people on board.

That said, those are better off getting really small, as there isn’t much room for head or legroom there. In fact, the EQS SUV is a five-passenger SUV with an available third row of seats.

So, and given the odd number of goods, let’s at least see how many bags can fit behind row 2.

All of them, easy, no complicated Tetrising, I just stuffed them in. This proves that there’s WAY more than 22.7 cubic feet in the back, but it also illustrates why I don’t check the luggage behind the second row three-row cars or midsize SUVs in general. : I’ll run out of bags in my garage before I can fully load.

Therefore, as a two-row midsize SUV, the EQS is perfectly normal with very comfortable and spacious rear seats. Now let’s see some cargo details.

Good:

This is the storage area under the floor. It’s not as big as a deep barrel Found in EQS sedan/hatchback, but it is still very much useful. What looks like that briefcase is the charging cord and there’s obviously space around it. The upper right photo shows the handy strap that Mercedes includes that allows you to open the cargo area lid while loading.

The underfloor storage area can hold the cargo lid when not in use, which is always a much appreciated feature. It can start the charging briefcase, but you can live without that in the car or just find a place for it in the rest of the very large cargo area.

Bad people:

To lower the third row, you have to tap that square bit on the top of the seat (upper left). Strong. The problem is, you also have to press it to raise the seat, meaning you can’t do it from the cargo area. Bad. You have to go around to the back door, press that square button, and flip the seat up from there. The double trouble is that to do that, you have to fold the second row of seats using the perfectly acceptable button on top of its seats (upper right). This is really annoying. Maybe an old big belt would be unsightly to raise the chair, but at least it works.

Yet another way the EQS SUV isn’t a three-row SUV.
