General Motors is reportedly considering small electric pickup trucks

common engine is considering adding a small entry-level model to its range electric pickup truck, According to a recent report. The automaker is currently showing a prototype to a select group of customers to gather feedback on the model before executives decide its fate.

Industry trade magazine auto news complain that they had seen the pickup at a conference organized by General Motors and described it as “smaller Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.” For context, the Maverick spans about 200 inches, 73 inches wide and 69 inches high, so it’s about 12 inches shorter, 11 inches narrower, and 10 inches lower than New Chevrolet Colorado Launched. This sounds small GM trucks will be closer in size to Brazilian market Chevy Montanapicture at the top.

But unlike Montana, the model that auto news reviewed has two doors, a “low roofline,” a 4- to 4-and-a-half foot long cargo box and a design that’s been described as futuristic and sporty. If launched, the unnamed pickup will be marketed as an “affordable” EV with a base price pegged to less than $30,000. However, that’s a big deal if: the pickup truck – whose name has not been announced – hasn’t been approved for production.

“We’re creating these to get feedback and then trying to modify it or move on,” said Michael Pevovar, director of EVs and affordable. Cross each other design for chevrolet, told the publication. “The input can come back that it’s too small and that’s okay,” he added. If it turns out to be too small for a buyer, General Motors isn’t ruling out the possibility of building its entry-level electric pickup on a different architecture to make it a bit larger.

It’s too early to tell where electric pickups will fit into General Motors’ portfolio if executives approve. Chevrolet immediately comes to mind, especially considering the sub-$30,000 price tag. The pattern would make more sense with a bow on its front than with a Cadillac Icon, GMC trucks are often positioned higher than Chevrolet, and Buick hasn’t built a pickup in decades.

Similarly, there is no word on when it will enter production or where it will be built. With that said, there is a very clear market for affordable, small pickup truck. As of the third quarter of last year, Ford sold more Mavericks than it has explore or forest ranger. hyundai How many have not been sold? Santa Claus truck, but it’s still not too shabby, beat Place and Accent last year. The fact that Ram is also noted for looking small vans is another sign that this segment has real potential.

GM considers an electric variant will also give it a unique advantage in this new segment. Ford offers a mixture version of the Maverick, but otherwise it and the Santa Cruz only use internal combustion engines. It doesn’t seem like any of the models Ram is reviewing won’t be fully electric.
