Many see our natural satellite as the next frontier for human colonization. As a result, NASA’s next Moon mission is within everyone’s reach.
Meanwhile, there are others who see Mars as the next big frontier. Thus, after the Moonwatch, OMEGA adds another unique model to its Speedmaster line. This is the X-33 Marstimer – a novelty yet classy timepiece.
The watch maker notes that the development of this Speedmaster was with input from the European Space Agency (ESA). This partnership ensures every element related to the Red Planet is accurate. It has a grade 2 titanium case that measures 45 mm x 14.9 mm with 20 mm between the lugs.
To show off the partnership between OMEGA and ESA, the medal case on the back shows each respective signature.
The iconic seahorse logo is engraved in the center while the Speedmaster X-33 Marstimer is engraved above it. The bezel holds an aluminum insert, anodized oxalic in red hematite.
Earth tones are visible on the pusher at 10 o’clock and as a gradient shade for the seconds hand. A sapphire crystal protects the black dial, holding an easy-to-read LCD unit to display the Earth and Mars symbols when you need to check the time on each planet.
Backlight and Super-LumiNova help show details in low light. With the help of ESA, the MTC function keeps track of the date and time sol at the main meridian of the fourth planet. For a little trivia, its day is 2.7% longer than ours. It runs on the OMEGA 5622 quartz movement.
The X-33 Marstimer comes with a titanium bracelet, but a special NATO strap is included if you want to swap it out. “The inner liner of the watch dial emulates the Hebes Chasma, a unique steep-sided canyon on the Martian surface,” says OMEGA.
