“I will be the first man to stop him”
Conor Benn has vowed to be the first to stop Chris Eubank Jr.
The WBA Continental welterweight champion will set his undefeated record as he steps gaining weight to take on the son of former two-division world champion Chris Eubank.
Benn (21-0, 14 KOs), son of former world champion Nigel, will face second-generation Eubank on October 8.
O2 Arena in London will host the clash and it will be streamed exclusively worldwide on DAZN and on DAZN Pay-Per-View in the UK and Ireland.
It was in 1990 and again in 1993 that Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn fought in two brutal matches for the world championship.
Eubank Sr took the first win through the ninth inning, clinching the WBO middleweight title in the process, but the second match, which took place in the super-middleweight, ended in a draw.
Now, 29 years have passed, except for one day, their sons will clash.
In an exclusive interview with Matchroom Boxing YouTube ChannelBen says:
“This is a legacy war.”
“It was a big rivalry between Eubank Sr. and my father, Nigel Benn, and it was a war that is still talked about to this day.
“It was one of Britain’s great rivals and the legacy lives on. It’s really about the legacy, this fight, and I feel like the stars have come together for this moment. “
Eubank Jr, a middleweight who has also campaigned at 168lbs and is a former world title challenger, will drop to the lowest weights ever, with an expected fight of 156lbs. .
Ben added:
“I feel like my entire career has been poured into me.”
“It was because I had to face the challenges alone and really separate myself from my dad, train on my own, fight on my own, and my dad was there but far away from me, so I had to fight the enemy. his old. Son, it will be a special moment. “
But Benn has promised he will force the 32-year-old (32-2, 23 KOs) back to the drawing board by handing him his first loss.
“I win this fight that unravels and strengthens Benn’s legacy, in my opinion. In the final battle, I believe my father should have won. The whole world believes so. So the fact that it was a tie means that it’s time for the boys to work it out and put the score straight and I believe there is no doubt that I will raise my hand at the end of it. “
It was a fight that first entered the ether after Eubank Jr beat Liam Williams earlier this year.
And after much back and forth between the pair, their camp, and everything surrounding the fight, boxing fans and the general public will get to witness the showdown once again.
“The world championship, in the welterweight division, is the ultimate goal, but for me this is a legacy moment and jumping up the weight class is not a problem for me.
“He can absorb my shots a little bit better, you won’t see me get tired of being there, and although he was out of breath a few times, he was a solid fighter.
“That makes for a great fight and I think he will achieve more. He thinks I’ll be his easiest night and I’ll just go in there and do what I have to do. I’m confident that I can beat any man, I’ll charge straight at him and I’ll be the first to stop him.”
