Novak Djokovic dropped four places on the ATP rankings after winning Wimbledon. This is why

Novak Djokovic upped the challenge from tempered Nick Kyrgios to win his seventh Wimbledon title on Sunday. Djokovic came back to win the final 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7/3) in London. However, this week’s ATP rankings saw the 35-year-old Serbian drop four places from 3rd to 7th. This is because the ATP decided not to award any ranking points to Wimbledon. this year after the All England Club banned players from Russia and Belarus. Russia’s Daniil Medvedev, who was knocked out of Wimbledon, retains his top spot.

Medvedev is behind Alexander Zverev and Rafael Nadal in the ranking.

Interestingly, this is the first time in 25 years that Roger Federer has not found a place on the ATP rankings.

Since the rankings only take into account points earned in the past 52 weeks, Federer has not scored anything like his last match at Wimbledon last year.

Djokovic, meanwhile, expressed his doubts about going to the US Open because he couldn’t get there without getting vaccinated.

“At the moment, I cannot go to America, I am hoping for positive news, but there is not much time left, I do not know, the hope will appear forever,” Djokovic said at a press conference in Belgrade.

“I want to play the US Open but if it doesn’t happen it’s not the end of the world, nor the first Grand Slam that I have to withdraw,” he said.

With the victory of Wimbledon, Djokovic currently has 21 Grand Slam titles, far exceeding the number of 20 of Roger Federer.

Among men’s tennis players, he is second only to Rafael Nadal, who has won 22 Grand Slam titles.
