Former first lady Michelle Obama also spoke out in a three-page statement shared on Instagram. She stated:
It breaks my heart that we may now be fated to learn the painful lessons of the days before Roe was enacted the law of the land – a time when women risked their lives in illegal abortions.

There was a time when governments denied women control over their reproductive functions, forced them to continue with unwanted pregnancies, and then abandoned them when their children were born.
When we do not understand our history, we will have to repeat its mistakes. In this country, our futures are tied together in a thin tapestry that each of us has a hand made,” she continued.
