Nintendo Switch dominates May in Japan
We’ve got the full May sales data in Japan, and it’s another strong performance from the Nintendo Switch that should come as no surprise to anyone.
Nintendo Switch Sports took the top spot in terms of game sales, reaching nearly 420,000 copies after its release on April 29. This performance puts the game just behind its 2006 sibling. Wii Sports at 553,000 units, which, if you recall, were not shipped with the Wii console in Japan.
Kirby and the Forgotten Landmeanwhile, fell to second place, selling 117,000 units in May. Before that, the game spent March and April topping the charts.
Overall, more than 1.6 million games were sold in the region in May, of which 86.6% were on Switch. Certainly an impressive statistic and put Nintendo as the top publisher for May in terms of value and volume, with Konami in second place.
