In recent weeks, BOXXER promoter, Ben Shalom, has confirmed all that goes on, the fight will come at a crossroads in both of their careers.
The current WBA rankings have Fury at 4th and Hunter 2 at the top. The winner will beat the winner (WBA second-place champion) Trevor Bryan and (challenge) Daniel Dubois on June 11 in Miami.
Fury, 27, has won his last three fights against Pavel Sour, Mariusz Wach and Christian Hammer, since losing Alexander Povetkin in 2019. The narrow loss to the Russian became the third loss in the British record after losing to Kubrat Pulev and Joseph Parker.
Hunter (20-1-2, 14 KO) only lost to Oleksandr Usyk, in cruiser class, and won against the likes of Alexander Ustinov, Martin Bakole and Sergey Kuzmin. The 33-year-old also drew Povetkin on Ruiz-Joshua 2 in 2019. However, the American has since had a draw against Jerry Forrest last time.
“I watch fights that everyone avoids,” said Fury (26-3, 15 KOs). “Michael Hunter fought for the best and was there for the best. These are the fights where I want to prove who is the best boxer out there.
“I am looking forward to this challenge. I believe I am one of the best boxers in the world and this is another big fight to prove that I stand in the same top three spots in the world heavyweight division. ”
After the BOXXER promo ends, fans will be able to see Mancunian legend Ricky Hatton don the Mexican icon Marco Antonio Barrera during an exhibition event. Details of that event are still being finalized.
