Main Event Match 250 E / W
Hunter Lawrence and Christian Craig were an opponent, respectively, but it was Hunter who soon gained the advantage as Craig played it safe to secure his seat in the championship.
In third place was Craig’s teammate Nate Thrasher and he wasn’t going to force the matter but a door opened in two minutes and Thrasher got through it to second and immediately started. challenge Hunter Lawrence to the top. Thrasher’s pass to Lawrence wasn’t quite as careful as it was to his teammate but it was clean enough and once he left Lawrence in the dust.
Christian Craig went down the race five minutes and lost a few places from that mistake, sliding to sixth just behind Austin Forkner. The Kawasaki man then made a small mistake that sent Craig back up to fifth.
Halfway through the contest, Thrasher led Lawrence by 2.5 seconds and Pierce Brown by a similar distance to return to third. RJ Hampshire is a few bikes behind Brown and is in fourth place, while Craig is a few seconds behind in fifth.
Jo Shimoda then overtook Austin Forkner before continuing to push Christian Craig back into sixth place.
With four minutes to run, Lawrence stepped up to take on a win challenge for Thrasher as they negotiated low traffic. Two minutes later, Hunter was behind Thrasher and managed to break through. Hunter’s first attempt takes him a little while and the clock goes down fast. Further down Craig has been relegated to eighth place by Forkner and Mosiman…
Hunter made another attempt at Thrasher with 30 seconds left on the clock, which again took him a long time but they still had plenty of traffic to negotiate in the last two rounds.
It was a tense and exciting final lap but Lawrence could not find a way past Thrasher and had to finish in second place behind senior Yamaha, who finished his sometimes difficult season in a high pitch.
Pierce Brown made it to the podium ahead of RJ Hampshire and Jo Shimoda but an eighth place was enough for Christian Craig to win his first AMA Supercross championship.
Christian Craig, 30, winner of the 250 West Championship in 2022 is ten points ahead of 23-year-old Hunter Lawrence.
Falling 23 points, Michael Mosiman finished third in the Western Championship, 35 points ahead of 19-year-old Jo Shimoda.
Jett Lawrence may not qualify for the final round but still ends the 2022 season with a 34-point advantage over RJ Hampshire as the Aussie youngster adds 250 Supercross East Champsionships before proceeding to defend his AMA Pro Motocross Title in at the end of this month.
The 250 rookie of the year is Cullin Park.
