Warren: Yarde could face winner Beterbiev-Smith in UK
Promoter Frank Warren says Anthony Yarde is likely to challenge the winner in a June 18, three-belt light-heavyweight unification match between Artur Beterbiev and Joe Smith Jr.
Yarde was at number one in the WBO rankings, with the WBO, IBF and WBC titles as Beterbiev and Smith collided at Madison Square Garden in New York.
Warren, who advertises for Yarde, said he had a conversation with Bob Arum about bringing a world title to the Brit in the UK later this year.
“He’s going to go out into the Beterbiev-Smith fight, and he’s going to get the winner,” Warren said. “I think he has a big, huge chance to be world champion.
“I talked to Arum about fighting here. We want to fight here. If it’s October, it’ll probably be at O2 or something like that.
“I don’t care where it is – go ahead, let him do the business. He won the war, and we were in it. Take a look at the battles we’ve been able to do – there are some great battles to be made. “
