13 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas, curated by Kate and Joe
It took me almost 9 years to realize this, but the secret to getting what you want on Valentine’s Day is to ask for it. That’s it.
I want to start normalizing asking what you want for your birthday, for Christmas, for Valentine’s Day. Kindness knows I’m not a mind reader — why should I expect my husband to read my mind? So there’s no need for subtle mentions or casual conversational hints anymore. This year, I’m sending him an email with links to some of the things I really want for Valentine’s Day (and sending a link to this post for good measure).
Here are a few things Joe and I are asking each other this Valentine’s Day.
01
Juniper Ridge | Desert Cedar Shower Gel | $12
We love going to the desert together but it’s been years. This will be a pleasant nostalgic scent in the shower.
02
Farm Pottery | Cheese Knife Blacksmith | $125
An upgrade from our thriving ones!
03
j.bee | Diamond Locket Necklace | $80
I lost a locket in college and have always regretted it. This would be a beautiful alternative.
04
Vermicular | Musui-Kamado | $670
It’s a wild question, but will you be rewarded with bread?
05
Wills | Women’s Classic Quarterfinals | $189
I will live in this.
06
Herbal Commodity Co., Ltd | Featured herbal box | $21
Color me attractive!
07
Milk Bar | Confetti Chocolate Cookies | $8
Just don’t let the kids know where you’ve hidden them!
08
Alex Mill | Women’s Sherpa Work Coat | $185
This jacket made me say “Oooohhhh.”
01
Rab | Expedition Kitbag 80 | $110
We’ve officially got the itch to travel. We haven’t traveled for too long and when we get back I don’t intend to check the rolling bag. I’m trying to simplify my wardrobe, which will give me a chance to pack all my things into an 80L bag that looks like it can take anything the new wild can throw at it.
02
Wills | Classic Cashmere Quarter Zip | $218
Hear me out: I’ve dressed up like an unemployed shovel during most of the pandemic, with a loose (missing) haircut until recently. After cutting my keys, I decided I needed to find some of that lost professionalism again, even while calling Zoom, so I went back—*ready for this?* — Shirt with sleeves. This precious zip is really cool saying that collared shirts don’t have to be pressed perfectly, as its only exposed part is the collar. IT’S SCIENCE.
03
Huckberry | Cover 6-Panel Waxed Canvas | $44
Logan and Kendall Roy’s Heir showed me that hats without a logo on them simply scream that you mean the business — literally and figuratively. With this insight gathered, I at least want people to think that I mean to be in business most of the time, which is why the cap without any branding is such a flexibility. great activity.
04
Skin people | Signal | $120
Over the past two years or so, I’ve been trying to do more things around the house and have even started learning the basics of fixing things (under the guidance of our best guys who do it all by themselves). repair and installation 95%). With that said, having this Signal would be a serious step up from anything I could possibly need in a multi-tool. Actually, it probably has more than what I might need—what is the ¼” hex bit driver?
05
Onsen | Waffle Hooded Robe | $195
My wife wears them religiously, and I recently wore this robe. Long story short, I like it. I wore PJ underneath, but it totally made me feel like Tony Soprano.
