If I could give any budding landscape photographer one piece of advice, it’s not to get too married to a wide-angle lens. There’s no doubt that there’s a reason wide-angle lenses are so popular, but they’re not always the right choice. First, they can make the frame too busy by including too many elements. Second, they make it difficult to manage the foreground, mid-ground, and background simultaneously. Don’t be afraid to bring one longer lens and use it to create simpler and more direct compositions.
