7 airline and hotel loyalty programs that let you gift elite status

Outside of Hyatt’s Guest of Honor Program and Air Canada status card, you often cannot share your elite interests with others when you are not with them. Fortunately, some loyalty programs allow you to gift elite status to someone you choose.

This benefit is usually only available to top elites who meet certain thresholds. Today, we are going to look at some programs that allow you to give elite status to others.

Canadian Airlines

When you choose a Status Card as your chosen benefit, you will be entitled to two, three or four cards for 50K, 75K and Super Elite status respectively. In addition, Super Elite members automatically receive two passes per year.

Clear and simple, Status Pass allows elite members to share their benefits with friends or family members when they are not traveling together. Specifically, friends or family members will receive the following:

  • Priority check-in.
  • Three bags checked, including priority handling.
  • Prioritize security checks.
  • Maple Leaf Lounge access.
  • Priority airport waiting.
  • In-house preferred.

Each Status Pass covers the entire Air Canada booking, including bonus flights, for up to nine companions booked together. One major limitation is that the Status Pass benefits only apply to Air Canada flights.

In addition to the Status Pass, Air Canada allows select elite members to donate status entirely to others. Aeroplan 75K elite members can offer someone Aeroplan 35K status as one of their select benefits, while Super Elite members can choose to offer Aeroplan 50K status as one of the benefits. their chosen interests.

alaska airline

MVP Gold status gives you two free deposit bags. AIRLINES ALASKA

When you unlock 75K Gold MVP status, you can gift MVP status to a friend or family member. All you need to do is fill in this sample on the Alaska website to name the recipient.

The perks of MVP status include a 50% mileage bonus, Ruby one worldtwo free checked baggage, preferred seat at the time of booking, and upgrade to first and first class seats within 48 hours prior to departure.

American Airlines

American Airlines also offers the airline’s most frequent flyers several opportunities to earn AAdvantage status.

Members can now choose to give Gold or Platinum status to a friend, family member or colleague as a Loyalty Choice Reward. In particular, you can give Gold status at level one, two and three. And at levels four and five, you can use two Loyalty Choice Rewards selections to award Platinum status.

Once AAdvantage replace Loyalty Choice Rewards with Loyalty Points Rewards in 2023 you will be able to gift at the highest level of Executive Platinum. However, you cannot award Executive Platinum until you have achieved 3 million Loyalty Points in an eligible period.

You can also donate status through American Airlines Business Extra Program. The program allows you to exchange 3,200 points for AAdvantage Gold status or 6,600 points for AAdvantage Platinum status.

Delta Airlines

Once you qualify for Platinum and Diamond Medal status, you can choose Benefits of choosing Delta as a reward for reaching those tiers. When Global and regional upgrade certificate tends to be the top pick, among other rewards is the chance to give status. Platinum members can donate Silver status, while Diamond members can donate Gold status.

Companies can also donate Delta status through SkyBonus Business Program. In particular, a company can exchange 120,000 points for a Silver Medal Status is valid for 12 months.

Hilton Hotel

If you stay with Hilton title for 60 or more qualifying nights in a calendar year, you can give Gold status to another member of your choice. And if you stay with Hilton for 100 nights or more in a calendar year, you can gift Diamond status.

However, these thresholds are slightly lower in 2022. Specifically, if you stay 40 or more eligible nights in 2022, you can receive Gold status. And if you stay eligible for 70 nights or more in 2022, you can award Diamond status.

You’ll receive an email with a code that you can use to gift another member’s status once you’ve reached the required number of nights in a calendar year. You must select a member for the status gift by January 31 of the year after you earn the benefit. Donated status lasts 365 days from the date of donation.

If you don’t stay the required number of nights, your friends and family can still enjoy Hilton Honors status. After all, Hilton Honor status is a benefit of the following cards:

Hyatt

Hyatt’s World doesn’t allow you to donate status outright. However, as mentioned earlier, it offers something even better than gift-giving status.

Is a part of Hyatt’s Guest of Honor Program, Hyatt’s Globalists can use their points to book a rewarding stay for someone else who will receive all the hotel benefits that a Globalist would normally enjoy (e.g. free breakfast, fees charged) free and eligible for room upgrade). You can book a vacation for a different individual each time, but you must book it using points — there is no Guest of Honor concept for paid vacations.

Marriott

When you hit 50 and 75 elite nights in a calendar year with Marriott, you’re eligible for Annual selection benefits. even though Suite Night Award tends to be the most popular choice, you can choose to give the status to another member.

After reaching 50 elite nights, you can give gifts Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Silver status is an automatic benefit on some co-brands Marriott credit card and includes perks like 10% bonus points for paid stays and priority late check-out.

And once you hit the 75-night threshold, you can choose to give Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status. Although Gold Elite status is better than Silver Elite status, it is still relatively easy to achieve Gold Elite status through hotel credit card and United Airlines Status. So you may want to use one of the other Choice Benefits options.

When you have something of value like an airline or hotel elite status, it’s natural to want to share the privilege with others. And elite status can be the perfect gift for traveling friends and family. But consider your options carefully before choosing the status gift as an important reward, as there may be more valuable options.
