When we think about the essentials of a photo session, we often picture the big and interesting pieces of equipment: the camera, the lenses, the lighting, the controls. Today, however, I’m sharing the unsung heroes in my kit. Here are five small, inexpensive but essential kits for styling product photography shots.
Non-permanent adhesive
I use White shirt on most photo shoots. Sometimes, I’m leaning against a wall and I want to quickly close a lightweight vinyl. A few blobs do the job perfectly. Likewise, if I had a product like a bottle rolling around while I was trying to shoot from above, a little bump on the back would help it snap into place in no time. .
Sometimes the backdrops and canvas I use are uneven as I may have rolled them up for transport to the shooting location. A layer of double-sided tape will keep them flat in no time. There are literally countless ways that I use it on set and it’s guaranteed that I’ll need it at any time.
Tweezers
Tweezers really handy for moving delicate pieces and pieces around a set without having to crush something with your thumb and forefinger. They’re ideal for really small, delicate movements that you just can’t do with your hands. If you’re working with something like jewelry and you don’t want to leave ugly finger prints, tweezers are the perfect choice for adjusting pendants, charms, and other delicate necklaces. .
Water mixed with vegetable glycerin
I have several small spray bottles filled with an equal mixture of water and vegetable glycerin. I use this in food photography sessions to add sparkle to things like tomatoes and lettuce leaves, but it can be great in product photography for things like bathrooms or products. beauty, where you can spray on the front of a jar or bottle to get that lovely, sparkly item.
Make-up seasoning
A lot of the items in my product shoot will require a little support to adjust the height and add lift. Make-up seasoning are great for this and they can be inserted underneath tubs, pipes and bottles. You can always stack a few together if you need more height or cut them with scissors to make smaller and more delicate pieces for smaller items.
Makeup brushes
Have a fan makeup brushes (that one is only used for your face, not your face!) very useful for erasing. If you have scattered something small and delicate like chamomile flowers, rose petals or other ingredients and you want to remove them from the set, use a brush with a more subtle brushstroke than using a brush. hand or tea towel. . Lint-free tissue paper
Surface cleaning may be needed between shots if the sets you’re putting together are messy or have oil, paint, debris, or anything else spilled. Use lint-free paper towels is a great choice because you won’t be dragging small pieces of tissue all over the place that the camera will pick up.

It’s not always the flashiest or most obvious kits that will save your day of photography.
