5 hack points for an Inovativ camera car
Motorcycles can be an expensive tool on set, and Inovativ is the leader of the group. Hopefully these ideas can get more out of your cart at a lower cost.
If you haven’t heard of Inovativ or don’t understand why a camera trolley can be such an important tool, this video will help you understand it. The shopping cart is just the base and the accessories are where the user personalizes it to their exact needs. A photographer might want a clip for their camera’s lanyard, and a DIT might need somewhere to store hard drives. User swappable wheels, controls, you name it.
The problem is that these add-ons and accessories can be quite expensive. More children’s stapler added to your cart will cost €250, the same price as two brand new C-Stands. That’s why it’s great to see Kevin Reyes use drum and clamp hardware to build his Inovativ shopping cart setup.
In fact, he was so efficient at upgrading his cart, that it cost him $1,944 down to $310. As a supporter of bare metal and cheaper handhelds, I’m sure there isn’t enough difference for the end user to care.
Now, there are cheaper trolley systems of course. Proaim make a suitable selection. However, be aware that not all brands fold, and remember to keep weight in mind. Inovativ produces sturdy yet lightweight strollers. If you just need to ship equipment to the studio, I can’t recommend this stroller full. It’s super light, expands and holds everything in place with some sturdy bungee cords.
