3M partners with AWS to leverage AI for clinical documentation

3M Health Information Systems announced a partnership with Amazon Web Services to accelerate the innovation and improvement of artificial intelligence and machine learning services around M*Modal, including Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Comprehend Medical, and Amazon. Transcribe Medical.

WHY IT IMPORTANT

According to the company, compatible with more than 250 electronic health records, more than 300,000 clinicians use M*Modal for real-time speech recognition that is compatible with clinical documentation in the surrounding environment.

When integrated into clinical workflows, AI technology can help clinicians focus more on direct patient care by automating structured notes in the EHR. 3M says using Amazon Bedrock’s generalized AI service will further scale and accelerate conversational AI to deliver greater flexibility and usability to end users.

Garri Garrison, president of 3M HIS added: “3M’s ambient capabilities allow our physicians to focus on what they do best – ‘drugs’.

The security and reliability of AWS can also help 3M accelerate the delivery of high-quality clinical documentation, Garrison said.

Using contextual insights, 3M Fluency Align uses patient-physician conversations and pre-existing EHR data to create quality-assessed notes directly in the patient record, ready for the physician review and approval.

“We believe that ‘language is the highest form of intelligence’ and the use of AI,” said Dr. Shankar Sridharan, consultant pediatric cardiologist and chief clinical and informatics officer at Great Ormond Street. intelligent ways in health care can enhance our clinical capabilities.” Hospital, UK, in notice.

TREND TO BIGGER WOMAN

Contributing to the burnout of doctors and nurses for several years, the American Association for Health Informatics launched a multi-stakeholder effort last year to research and find solutions to ease the burden. document for US clinicians.

The goal is to reduce the document burden on US clinicians by 25% compared to the current state over the next 5 years, which AI promises.

One study of note transcription found that, contributing to the high rates of text duplication, document burden also led to adaptive behaviors in which clinical note authors repeatedly made copies of notes. old notes and then add them to the patient record.

Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine who published their report last year said: “The note-for-document model should be further examined as this is a major cause of duplication and distributed, and alternative models should be evaluated”.

ON PROFILE

“Our overall goal is to create a better, more sustainable solution and continue to be a trusted partner our customers can rely on to ease administrative tasks and prioritize patient involvement,” Garrison said in the statement.

“When using AWS ML services, 3M will enable the integration of approved information from physician and patient conversations directly into this patient-focused workflow,” said Tehsin Syed, general manager of health AI at AWS, added.
