Landscape photography is a complex genre that requires a combination of skills to get it right, but there are some overarching philosophies that can guide you to consistently get better photos. Of the tips, I think one particularly important (and that will save you quite a bit of frustration) is to remember that what your eyes see is not what the camera sees. We’ve all had the experience of finding a great scene that’s just a live shot, taking a lot of photos, then going home, only to wonder why the photos aren’t as compelling as the live shot. It is important to remember that a photograph is a two-dimensional miniature, and factors such as aperture and focal length can also alter its appearance from what our eyes see. Furthermore, a photograph can never convey the physical grandeur of a scene as much as seeing it with your own eyes, so be careful to rely on that to create a photograph.
