25 things you didn’t know about Stardew Valley
rare references
Rarecrow, like rare scarecrows achieved through various ways, all slightly weird. Some are obvious references – aliens, dwarves from the mine – but others include references to ConcernedApe’s favorite movies, obviously!
Simpsons References
You can create yourself a pair of Radioactive Glasses by combining Cloth and Radiator Rods. These glasses have a description “Doesn’t really provide any protection from radiation” — a reference to the infamous Radioman episode of The Simpsonsin which Rainier Wolfcastle gets acid in his eyes and cries, “My eyes! Goggles don’t do anything!”
old name
Penny was once named Dana, Alex was Josh, and Willy was… Dick. Yes.
secret animation
You can click on NPC characters to animate them!
Dressed like trash
Literally! Put a piece of trash in the sewing machine (Broken CDs, Broken Glass, Driftwood, Soggy Leopards, and Trash Cans all work) and you’ll get a shirt that looks like a bin. Combine these with the gorgeous Trash Hat, which looks like a trash can lid and can be found in (you guessed it) trash cans around town, and you’ll end up looking like a trash can. Add a gray pleated skirt to complete the look!
Move out of your mom’s basement
Six of the 12 marriage candidates (Maru, Penny, Sebastian, Abigail, Sam, Alex) live with their parents or grandparents. The rent situation is tough there, perhaps? After all, there are only a handful of houses to live in…
Picky eaters
The villagers will complain about having to eat the items you sell to Pierre if they are of “normal” quality. Obviously everyone in town has really high standards, and if you sell a lot of meals to Pierre, you’ll get this dialogue over and over again.
Crossover in the agricultural universe
There is a secret cross between Stardew/Terraria with Junimos, Green Chicken and Joja Cola.
Climate change
From @lil_wage on Twitter:
“In Stardew Valley, storms are useful for battery packs, but they’re rare. There’s an item called a rain totem that makes it rain the next day, but not a hurricane. Unless, that is. , it was used IN a storm, extending the time. It has been storming Pelican Town for 12 consecutive days.”
Blood? No, it’s just red water
Lava Eels, Super Cucumbers, Slimejacks and Void Salmons change the fish pond water color to red, blue, green and purple, if you want your pond to match the overall vibe Your Halloween/goth/sewer farm!
cucumber fashion
Put Sea Cucumber or Super Cucumber in the sewing machine, and you’ll have… a tube top. Correct. You are wear cucumber as a leading. It’s fashion, baby!
Steppin’ in the rain
Did you know that the weather in Stardew Valley is not random but is instead determined by the number of steps the player has taken? This sounds ridiculously useless, but it really is really useful for speedrunnersone can take some precisely calculated steps to make sure it rains.
Well, it really is a a little more complicated than that. Random chance is also calculated using integers like the player’s unique ID number and the number of days they’ve played. However, if you are the type of speedrunner who loves manipulating variables, then all you need is to know what seed you are using and then you can regenerate the same “random” output ” in a consistent manner. Great huh?
The mayor’s underwear is delicious
If you put Mayor Lewis’ purple shorts in the soup in Luau, Mayor Lewis will scold you for spoiling the soup and “using my very private item for this sick purpose”… but the Governor, who you are trying to impress in the first place, has the following to say:
“Hmm… It’s a bit messy… but actually, the taste is pretty good! Wait a minute… there’s something in my bowl… what’s this?”
Delicious soup.
Another lingerie opportunity
You can also display purple shorts in a gray screen as part of the Stardew Valley Fair (you’ll be given Star Tokens to knock them down) and you can even wear them (Lewis would be annoyed, but Marnie would giggle). If you’ve unlocked Ginger Island and Resort you can give them to him when he visits and he’ll wear them on the beach!
The game will remember that
Stardew Valley tracks how many times you launch the game, and you’ll occasionally see a notification in the bottom left corner when you hit an important number. Launch the game 20 times and you will see a small heart; 30 times and you will be asked to “Defeat Journey Of The Prairie King without dying”; 10,000 times and you will receive a special message from ConcernedApe (we will not disclose this information).
Your music player may be terrible at music
…No reason! If your randomly assigned ID in multiplayer mode is divisible by 111, any music your character plays will be out of tune. This includes Elliott’s piano and musical emotion.
Conspiracy of sunflower seeds
When JojaMart and Pierre’s existed at the same time, Pierre’s price was much cheaper than Joja’s — with the exception of Sunflower Seeds, which cost 200 gold at Pierre’s and only 125 gold at JojaMart. If you buy a Joja Membership, the price across the board will drop to match Pierre’s store, but Sunflower Seeds also drop, down to 100 gold at JojaMart.
It gets weirder, though! When you harvest the Sunflower seeds, you get back the leftover seeds from the flower, which you can then sell back to Pierre for 20 gold each — unless you bought them from JojaMart in the first place, in which case, Pierre will buy them for 100 gold instead. Pierre, what’s wrong with you?
frog hat
You can get a frog hat by fishing at Gourmand Lake on Ginger Island. Who put it there? Don’t worry about it.
hipster coffee
Put Coffee Beans in the sewing machine, and you’ll get… a flannel shirt. Uniforms of coffee lovers are everywhere.
friendly slime
Hatch a slime in town, and it will be a friendly little guy who greets townspeople by name. Awww.

The two “Strange Dolls” artifacts in the game are actually a reference to ConcernedApe’s old work — namely, a webcomic he worked on called cosmic world. You can also see Wumbus in the sci-fi movie “Wumbus” at the Cinema and by getting the Wumbus statue in the crane game. You can even put the green doll in the sewing machine to make a Wumbus t-shirt!
You made the moon angry
Click on the moon on the 27th of any month to create an angry little moon, likely a reference to Georges Méliès’ short silent film ‘A Trip to the Moon’, in which a rocket crashes man’s eyes on the moon. moon. That’s why he wears a monocle.
shrimp enthusiast
If you love shrimp, why not make yourself a t-shirt for everyone to know? Put the Shrimp Cocktail in the sewing machine to sew this shrimp-flavored garment. Shrimp!!
No ice cream for you!
If you marry Alex, he’ll simply refuse to work at the ice cream stand during the summer, probably because he knows he might upset you instead. Ut.

You probably know that you can wear hats for kids and horses, but did you know you can wear hats for sea urchins in your indoor aquarium? It so cute. You can also order Alien Rarecrow hats!
