2025 Volvo EX30: Cool Cross Country, bad window switches and other personal details

MILK – Volvo calls its new EX30 a “no big deal, really big deal.” And while I hesitate to succumb to marketing slogans, after spending time with the company’s new EV in milan, Italyon Wednesday, I have to admit, Volvo had a point.

When it arrives in America early next year, Volvo EX30 2025 will be a new entry point into the brand. The base Single Motor Extended Range model will cost just $36,145 including a $1,195 destination fee, though the EX30 won’t be eligible for the updated US federal electric vehicle tax credit. Powered by 69 kilowatt hours batteryThe EX30 will be available with either 268 or 422 hp – the latter of which goes to the all-wheel-drive Twin Motor Performance – and Volvo hopes its small EV will have a maximum driving range of 275 miles.

All of that makes the EX30 quite compelling, and exploring the EV in person really gets you the deal. As you’d expect from a modern Volvo, the interior is fantastic – solidly built and covered in a variety of soft materials. From the recycled fabrics to the eye-catching trim, the EX30 really beats its weight in terms of luxury per dollar. Compared to something like a little bigger Mercedes-Benz EQB, Volvo looks and feels a lot nicer inside.

It’s not perfect, though. Most of the car’s controls are located in the central infotainment screen. But at least the display is nicely designed and responsive – thanks, Google software. I also hate, hate, hate The window switch is located on the center console. Volvo took a page out right away volkswagenits playbook and only installs two up/down toggles, with a tactile “rear” button that you need to press to use the same switch for the rear windows. The VWID.4 I have this kind of setup, and it’s horrible. For a company that usually does a great job on ergonomics, this is an unusually bad move.

The rest of the EX30, though? It’s a peach. I like the direct person look and it’s much smaller than in the picture – think Hyundai Kona. The 20-inch aerodynamic wheels might be too much of a hit for a car this small, but that’s just personal preference. I can’t wait to see one of these in Volvo’s new Moss Yellow exterior color too color.

In addition to the standard EX30, Volvo introduced an upcoming Cross Country version on Wednesday and wow, so cute. Increased ground clearance, purpose-built side panels, skid plates and 18-inch wheels wrapped in 225/55 series off-road tires really effective on this subcompact electric car. And Volvo thinks the whole process of building Cross Country applies itself well to a tram.

“I really like the idea of having Cross Country as part of the brand,” Volvo Cars CEO Jim Rowan told reporters in Milan on Wednesday. “When you are full tram … and you want to go camping for the weekend, in this car, you open the trunk, you stick a tent on the back of it, you use the HVAC system to heat or cool the car, you don’t need to worry about carbon monoxide. You can run a small refrigerator from it, you can charge a electric bicycle out of it. You can do a whole bunch of things that you could never do because now you have a huge amount of electrical energy that you never had before.”

The Cross Country will go on sale about a year after the standard EX30, with production expected to begin late 2024. Butch the all-rounder or city commuter – based on what I’ve seen. about the EX30, this is sure to become a hit.
