This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Porsche 911’s first public debut at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show. To celebrate the occasion, the German carmaker is launching a very special model called the 911 S/T that will be limited to just 1,963 units.

With a starting price of USD291,650 (around RM1.3 million) in the United States, the 911 S/T is certainly not cheap, but with good reason. As Porsche puts it, this “exclusive anniversary model unites the strengths of the 911 GT3 with Touring Package and the 911 GT3 RS and delivers a unique combination of agility and driving dynamics.”

Put simply, the 911 S/T has the body of a 992-generation 911 Touring, but with the engine from the current 911 GT3 RS shoehorned into it. The end result is a 4.0 litre naturally-aspirated flat-six that churns out 525 PS (518 hp or 386 kW) and 465 Nm of torque.

In the GT3 RS, the mill is paired exclusively with a seven-speed dual-clutch PDK, but the 911 S/T marks the first time a GT3 RS engine delivers its power to the road via a manual gearbox. The short-ratio six-speed manual transmission is accompanied by a new lighter, single-mass fly wheel and clutch assembly that cuts rotating mass by 10.5 kg, which improves the responsiveness of the engine. Porsche quotes a 0-100 km/h time of just 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 300 km/h.

Besides the tempting drivetrain, Porsche also used lightweight carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) for the front bonnet, roof, fenders, doors, roll cage, rear axle anti-roll bar and shear panel (stiffening element on the rear axle).

The anniversary model also gets magnesium wheels, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), a lithium-ion starter battery and lightweight glass, while the amount of insulation is reduced and the rear-wheel steering system is omitted entirely. With a kerb weight of just 1,380 kg, the 911 S/T is 40 kg lighter than a manual GT3 Touring and is effectively the lightest model of the 992 generation.

Porsche is also keen point out the 911 S/T is the only 911 of the current generation to combine a double-wishbone front suspension with a multi-link rear axle without rear-axle steering. All dampers and control systems have also been tuned accordingly for the revised powertrain, which is geared for driving enjoyment and not outright speed.

While the body may be a GT3 Touring, the S/T gets cutouts behind the front wheels similar to GT3 RS. There’s also a Gurney flap on the extending rear spoiler, along with staggered wheel and tyre sizes (20-inch, 255/35 front; 21-inch rear, 315/30 rear).

Inside, CFRP full bucket seats come as standard, which can be swapped out for Sport Seat Plus units at no extra charge. The instrument cluster and the clock of the Sport Chrono package are finished in a classic green Porsche colour scheme.

For even more visual flair, the S/T is offered with an optional Heritage Design Package that includes the exclusive Shoreblue Metallic exterior colour and Ceramica wheel colour. Customers can also add a starting number from 0 to 99 as well as a decorative foil, while the classic Porsche crest from the original 911 adorns the front, hub caps, steering wheel, headrests and key fob. The Porsche logo and the 911 S/T model designation on the rear of the car are in Gold.

The package, which draws inspiration from the racing version of the 911 S from the late 1960s and early 1970, also adds cloth seat centres in Classic Cognac with black pinstripes, which are another homage to heritage. Meanwhile, two-tone semi-aniline leather trim in Black/Classic Cognac leather with extensive leather surrounds, a roof lining in perforated Dinamica and other elements from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur complete the cost option out the package.

Customers are also offered the Chronograph 1 – 911 S/T watch by Porsche Design, which features a titanium case, Werk 01.240 movement with COSC certification and flyback function as well as a rotor in the design of the car’s wheels.
