2024 Open Championship odds, picks, lineups: Surprising predictions from golf model proven to win 13 majors

The 2024 Open Championship is still weeks away, but bettors around the world are starting to lock in their bets on the year’s final major. World No. 1-ranked Scottie Scheffler has won six tournaments this season, including his second major at the Masters in April. He recently won the Travelers Championship and is the favorite to win the Claret Jug for the first time in his career.

According to the latest 2024 Open Championship odds, Scheffler is 5-1. Rory McIlroy (13-2), Bryson DeChambeau (11-1), Xander Schauffele (14-1) and Ludvig Aberg (14-1) are next on the PGA odds board. The Open begins at Royal Troon Golf Club on Thursday, July 18. Before locking in your 2024 Open Championship picks, make sure See golf predictions and projected rankings from proven computer models at SportsLine.

Top Predictions for the 2024 Open Championship

The big surprise the model calls for at the 2024 Open Championship: McIlroy (13-2), the 2014 Open Champion and one of the top contenders, stumbled and didn’t even crack the top five. McIlroy’s 10-year major championship drought is well documented, which makes his woes on the road to the U.S. Open Championship all the more painful. He missed multiple putts within four feet on his final three holes, leading to a disastrous second-place finish.

It will be tough for McIlroy to overcome lingering emotions in the final major of the year, especially as the Open Championship brings its own pressures for the Northern Irishman. He has finished outside the top 40 in two of his last four appearances at the tournament, and he failed to crack the top 10 at the Masters or PGA Championship earlier this season. McIlroy ranks outside the top 50 on the PGA Tour in GIR, another reason why the model has him overshadowed in the final major of the year. See who else to fade here.

Another surprise: Tommy Fleetwood, a 21-1 underdog, is making a strong run for the title. Fleetwood has a better chance of winning than his odds suggest, so he is a target for anyone looking for a big payday.

Fleetwood has been hitting the ball extremely well off the tee this season, ranking third in driving accuracy (76.38%) and 16th in total drives (102). He’s also playing well in major tournaments in 2024, finishing T-3 at the Masters in April and T-16 at the US Open in June. Fleetwood has a top-10 finish at the 2023 Open Championship, his third top-10 finish in his last four Open Championship starts. Fleetwood is one of the top value picks to keep an eye on for the 2024 Open Championship. See who else to support here.

How to Pick the 2024 Open Championship

The model also has two other golfers with odds of 20-1 or better making a strong run for the title. Anyone who backs these long shots could be in for a big win. You can only see the model options here..
