2024 MINI Cooper S introduced in JCW version, previews pure gasoline-powered F66 John Cooper Works

Newly launched at the Malaysia Motor Show in May, F66 MINI Cooper S brings minimalist design of J01 electric model to the old petrol MINI Hatch. Some of you may not like the stripped-down styling, which is where the JCW Trim comes in – adding the usual John Cooper Works flash without the added dynamism that comes with it.

The bodykit complements the F66’s sleek exterior with a series of air intakes and spoilers. Up front, the grille is now all black and is filled with dual nostrils, a checkered-flag grille and additional lower ducts. The additional openings on either side hint at the increased cooling capacity required on a proper JCW, but of course these are obscured on the Cooper S.

Elsewhere, you’ll find deeper side skirts, a dual-channel rear spoiler and a large rear diffuser, along with a range of 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels that hide JCW-branded black brake calipers. The JCW can be optioned with a black or red roof, as well as matching bonnet stripes.

Inside, the JCW Trim adds black faux leather sport seats, accented with multi-colored fabric shoulder areas and red stitching. The fabric dashboard also features a red and black checkered pattern, but the main highlight remains the same – a 9.2-inch circular OLED infotainment touchscreen with unique displays for each driving mode, including the JCW-inspired Go-Kart mode.

There are no mechanical changes, with power still coming from the B48 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 204PS and 300Nm of torque. All that power is sent to the front wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. The JCW can also be had with the Cooper C, which is motivated by the B38 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine that produces 156PS/230Nm.

As well as adding some faster-looking kit to the petrol-powered MINI Cooper, the JCW Trim also previews the full-fat, capable John Cooper Works. JCW fellow countryman‘s 300 PS/400 Nm mill. Set to make its world debut in the autumn, the hot hatchback achieved a major milestone in June, winning the SP 3T class at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. A All-electric versionbased on J01, will also be offered.
