One big surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic: Young (14-1), who is among the favorites this week at 14-1, stumbles and doesn’t even rounded out the top 10. The 27-year-old American shot a 59 in the third round of the Travelers Championship, just the 13th round under 60 in PGA Tour history. He started the day 11 shots back of the lead, but that round helped him finally break into the top 10.
However, Young had finished outside the top 30 in his previous six tournaments, missing the cut at the RBC Canadian Open while finishing T-62 at the RBC Heritage and T-67 at the US Open. He is still looking for the first PGA Tour victory of his career after seven runner-up finishes. Another surprise: Robert MacIntyre, a lowly 40-1 odds-on, had a strong run for the title. He has a much better chance of winning than his odds suggest, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a big payout. MacIntyre has qualified just 10 times in 18 events this season, but he has made the most of those opportunities with six top-25 finishes.
He won the RBC Canadian Open earlier this month, shooting 16 under with his dad caddying for him. MacIntyre has finished in the top 16 in the last five tournaments he has qualified for, including a T8 at the PGA Championship.
