It’s also more aggressive than its predecessor, although Chevrolet hasn’t gone as far as Hyundai did with the Santa Fe. Instead, it goes in a more truck-like direction, actually performing better than you’d expect if you just heard about it without seeing any photos.
And since it’s more like a truck, it will now also be offered with the optional Z71 off-road package. Do families buying a three-row crossover necessarily need an off-road package? Are not. But we wouldn’t be surprised if it still sold like hot cakes. Obviously we haven’t ridden it yet, but it looks like it can handle more serious trails than ever before. And these days, rugged looks sell.
If you choose the Z71, you get a wider track and an inch more ground clearance, off-road tires on 18-inch wheels, better approach angles, aluminum skid plates, all-wheel drive. Dual clutch, upgraded dampers, off-road mode, downhill control and trailer package.
But while the Z71 is what most people would talk about, it’s certainly not the only trim level available on Traverse. It will also be offered in LS, LT and RS versions. Regardless of which Traverse you choose, power will come from a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 315 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, and while front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is an option.
Chevrolet also includes a suite of driver-assistance and safety features as standard, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking that will also brake for pedestrians and cyclists, and brake assist. blind spot steering and rear cross-traffic brake. Also, you won’t be able to drive without your seat belt on, which is sure to upset some people but should also be implemented more widely. However, do not place heavy objects in the front passenger seat unless you want to buckle them.
Inside, there’s an 11-inch driver display, as well as a 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Six USB ports are standard and wireless charging is available. It also offers 98 cubic feet of cargo capacity, which Chevrolet says is the best in its class. And you’ll be able to order with seating for seven or eight passengers. Super Cruise is also an option. According to Chevrolet, the Traverse 2024 will go on sale in early 2024 and the price will be announced closer to the sale date.
