2024 BMW M5 PHEV to pack more than 500kW – report

The BMW M5 will become mixed, but it will not become soft.

One user on Bimmerpost forum known for leaking future product plans said Next M5 there will be a version of the plug-in hybrid powertrain debuting in XM SUV.

In the XM Label Red, the setup combines a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver a total of 550 kW of power and 1000 Nm of torque. It’s all-wheel drive and has an eight-speed automatic transmission.

It also has an active anti-roll system, although it’s unclear if the lower-spec M5 requires the same technology.

The claimed electric range is up to 88 km thanks to the 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.

Whether the M5 will have the same version of the powertrain, or whether it will be kept slightly to give the XM some breathing space like the flagship, remains to be seen.

The current model produces 467 kW of power and 750 Nm of torque in its most powerful CS guise. It has a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 but no hybrid support.

Previous spy shots suggest that the M5 will have an interior that borrows heavily from the iX, with a curved dual-screen panel and a minimalist interface.

It is also expected to have a Touring body style, again based on leaks from Bimmerpost.
