Debuting during the Malaysia Motor Show is the Suzuki V-Strom 1050DE 2023, priced at RM88,888. Prices do not include road tax, insurance or registration and are available in three color options – Champion Gold/Mate Sword Metallic Silver and Glitter Black/Iridescent Black.
Powered by a 1,037 cc, liquid-cooled, V-twin DOHC engine, the V-Strom 1050DE – now in its third generation – produces 105.5 hp and 100 Nm of torque at 8,000. rpm. A six-speed transmission and the ultimate transmission of the chain send power to the rear wheels.
What differentiates the V-Strom 1050DE from the base model V-Strom 1050 is the installation of spoked wheels – 21 inches up front while the rear remains 17 inches – which come with Dunlop Trailmax Mistour tires. Also standard on the V-Strom 1050 ‘DE’ spec is a “gravel” mode, which complements the three available drive modes.
The V-Strom 1050DE also has a higher suspension, giving it 190 mm of ground clearance compared to 165 mm of the base model. Kayaba offers a 43 mm diameter, fully adjustable upside-down fork and a pre-adjustable Kayaba monoshock.
In the electronic control unit is the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS). This gives the driver the Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS), Motion Tracking Braking System, Cruise Control System, Hill Keep Control System, Load Dependent Control System, Slope-dependent control system, Suzuki Easy Departure System and Low RPM Assist.
In addition, standard equipment is a quick up and down gearshift. Other driving gear includes thicker handlebars, a shorter smokey windshield than stock, and switchable ABS for the rear wheels when off-road.
Exclusive to the Malaysian market is the shorter V-Strom 1050DE saddle. This keeps the rider 850 mm off the ground, compared to a standard seat height of 880 mm.
