2023 BMW XM launched in Malaysia – 653 PS, 800 Nm PHEV SUV, 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds, from RM 1.31 million

Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with high beam assistant, M Professional adaptive suspension, which includes electronically controlled dampers, active roll stabilization and an integrated active steering system ( steering wheel), M Sport differential and M Sport brakes with brake calipers finished in high-gloss black.

Both variants use the same 23-inch Star Spoke Style 923 M Bicolour light-alloy wheels, with black chosen for the Shadow Line configuration. The wheels are wrapped with 275/35 front and 315/30 rear tyres.

Inside, the kit list includes the BMW Curved Monitor, which features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, as well as BMW 8 OS. Other standard items including four-zone automatic air conditioning, interior lights, soft door opening and closing system, active ventilation and massage function for the front seats.

There’s also a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, smartphone integration (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), wireless charging, and access to a range of ConnectedDrive services. In terms of trunk space, the XM offers 527 liters of cargo space at the rear, which can be expanded to 1,820 liters when the rear seats are folded down.

The hybrid powertrain consists of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 S68, paired with an electric motor integrated into the transmission. The petrol engine alone provides 489 PS (483 hp or 360 kW) from 5,400 to 7,200 rpm and 650 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 5,000 rpm.

Meanwhile, the electric motor is rated for 197 PS (194 hp or 145 kW) and 280 Nm of torque. Combined, the system delivers a total of 653 PS (644 hp or 480 kW) and 800 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel drive.

Performance metrics include a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 270 km/h (equipped with the M Driver Package as standard on MY trims) -spec). Fully electric, the XM offers a WLTP-rated EV range of between 82 and 88 km and can go up to 140 km/h on an electric powertrain.

The electric motor is powered by a floor-mounted lithium-ion battery that operates at 317 V and has an energy capacity of 25.7 kWh (29.5 kWh total). Charging via AC (Type 2 connection) at up to 7.4 kW takes the battery from 0-100% in 4 hours and 15 minutes.

In terms of safety and driver assistance systems, the Driving Assistant Professional package brings driver assistant and lane control, automatic speed limit assist, lane change assist, active cruise control with function Stop&Go, lane departure warning, forward/rear cross-traffic alert, emergency stop assistant and avoidance assistant.

There’s also Park Assist Plus, which has reversing assist, horizontal parking assist, active parking distance control, and a surround view system. Other safety features include attention assistant, pedestrian sound protection, and active guard.

The BMW XM 2023 is available in seven exterior colors, namely Cape York Blue, Carbon Black, Marina Bay Blue, Toronto Red, Mineral White, Sapphire Black and Dravit Gray. For the interior, buyers can choose from four upholstery options: Merino Deep Lagoon Leather in classic leather, Merino Silverstone Leather in classic leather, Merino Black Leather and Merino Sakhir Orange Leather.
