Motorcycle line extension BMW Motorrad’s great legacy is the BMW Motorrad R18 Octane 2023. R18 Roctane joins R18 First Version (RM149,500), Classic R18 (RM154,500), R18 Bagger (RM186,500) and Transcontinental R18 (198,500 RM) in the BMW Motorrad Heritage catalog, along with the limited edition R18 100 Years.
Powered by the biggest-ever version of BMW Motorrad’s twin boxer engine, the R18 Roctane is a bagger-style touring motorcycle but ditches the R18 Bagger’s handlebar guard. Instead of the R18 Bagger’s travel handlebars, the Roctane has midi ape-shaped suspension bars that place the rider’s hand about mid-chest.

Carrying an air-cooled 1,801 cc twin boxer engine, the R18 Roctane, like its brethren, produces 91 hp at 4,750 rpm and 158 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Notably, the R18 engine produces 150 Nm of torque entirely in the 2,000 to 4,000 rpm range, making the torque curve almost as flat as a tabletop.
Wheel size follows the cruiser design trend, Roctane has a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. Standard equipment is a pair of manually locked saddle bags, each with a capacity of 27 liters while a windshield with auxiliary headlights and hanging turn signals is optional.
Driving conveniences include three driving modes – Rain, Roll and Rock – and traction control, as well as ABS and engine traction control. Engine-powered reverse gear and hill start control are available as factory options, as are heated hand grips, anti-theft alarm and tire pressure monitoring.
Other equipment includes adaptive LED lights that illuminate the corners and BMW Keyless Ride.
